Clean rooms are required within semiconductor operations as the tiniest speck of dust can destroy the functionality of an entire chip. A clean room is an environmentally controlled facility where products are manufactured and they are defined as specially constructed, enclosed spaces where contaminants in the air are highly controlled with respect to airborne particulates, temperature, humidity, air pressure, airflow patterns, air motion, vibration, noise, living organisms and lighting. Clean rooms have strict rules and procedures in place to prevent contamination of the semiconductors because without effective control, contamination can be detrimental to the product.
While clean rooms are planned and tightly fabricated, in order to maintain quality there is particular regulation around the classification of equipment permitted within the clean room. Hoist UK's range of special preparation hoists and lifting equipment are classified for use within semiconductor clean room applications and we work with our customers to design, manufacture, supply and install lifting and handling appliances that are not only technically correct for use in a semiconductor clean room but are safe and fit for purpose.
Cleanrooms are necessary in industries like pharmaceutical, semi-conductor manufacture, food production and aerospace, where facilities with very low levels of environmental pollutants are needed. Achieving and maintaining the necessary extreme levels of cleanliness, while still operating heavy equipment such as to lift and manoeuvre racks of products, requires a very special level of expertise.
The demand for cleanroom facilities within manufacturing processes continues to rise and in-line with this demand, the need for appropriate lifting equipment increases. This can be seen within the rise in hi-tech manufacturing, particularly electronics that must be made and assembled in a dust free hygienic environment, as one of the dominating requirements driving the need for purpose designed cleanroom lifting equipment.
Bouygues Energies and Services required a cleanroom standard hoist with bespoke features to be built into the ceiling of their Mars Rover simulation room. The hoist would be used to pick up the Mars Rover for general maintenance or in the event it falls over.
