Hoist UK helps light TK Maxx

Hoist UK have supplied a motorised hoist and control system for a very unique atrium lighting scheme at the TK Maxx store in Nottingham’s city centre.
The brief given to the design consultant was to have feature lighting scheme at the front of the store using spheres, but also have a functional system to clean normally inaccessible areas of glass internally at the front of the building.

The hoist and control system provided was to a high European safety standard and was used to suspend a man riding cradle used for window cleaning services, but what’s unique about this system is that the cradle doubles up as a static suspension framework for the lighting scheme at the front of the store and is completely hidden from the public view.

Cable reeling drums as well as the hoists are hidden out of sight behind the facia boards on the cradle itself, so when the store is closed, the cradle can be lowered which in turn lowers the lighting spheres for service and maintenance.

Quick release fittings enable the spheres to be removed so the cradle is accessible from ground level by a suitable trained window cleaning personnel, who then use the hoist and control system to raise and lower the cradle to clean the windows from the inside in the minimum amount of time.
